Stolen Handbag

My handbag was stolen from a party with my keys and other things in. I have never claimed on my insurance before but put a claim in as there was cash, glasses and keys in the bag. My handbag was a vivien westwood but was 3 or so years old but I dont have a receipt so they won't pay. I did provide a picture but they claim it isnt a good enough photo of the bag. I had the lock replaced at a cost of £200 due to the keys being in the bag and the insurance company are saying that this constitutes a home claim not contents so is treated as a separate claim. So taking into account this they have offered me £35 pay out on a claim that should have been around £500. Do I have any rights to argue this as the lock being changed was due to a handbag being stolen so in my opinion is contents!

Look at your policybook and see where locks/keys are covered... looking at both a John Lewis and Direct Line policy the loss of keys is covered by both sections of the policy and so you can claim off one or the other however other policies may have it under one section only.
Its where it is in your policy that counts... the fact they've been stolen isnt an indirect link to the need to replace the locks (which are obviously not stolen)
Do you only have a single photo of the bag? Did you buy it in store or online and if the latter have you scoured emails etc to find the old order confirmation?0
