Backmarket Massive caution required
Disclaimer
Some of this happened and some of this might have happened had I decided not to trade the phone in elsewhere as I was made an offer I could not refuse
Backmarket use a reseller London Magic Store who are are fobbing off their customers by being unwilling to reveal the imei/serialnumbers of phones that they sell by not placing these details on the invoice and will not supply them afterwards
I think it disgusting that Back Market would appear to allow the resellers to do this and not prevent it as part of the reseller agreement and can only conclude the reason is that they are happy that their customers be scammed by their resellers.
I conclude this because Backmarket have made no real effort to make London Magic Store divulge this information.
Backmarket sold a relative a 128Gb iphone
Backmarket supplied a 32 Gb Iphone
Backmarkets reseller are apparantly unwilling to provide the serialnumber/IMEI of the phone they sold to either me or Backmarket
Everything after here is now theoretical.
If we had returned the phone they could pretend it is not the same phone as the returned one does not match the size of the one that was apparantly supplied.
If we claimed under the 12 month warranty they could decline by pretending it is not the same phone as it is not a 128Gb phone.
The worst thing it is the section of society least likely to be able to afford new bits that will be affected

Just an observation, but was the phone bought for a child? They might not give you the information if it was bought by a different adult as you weren't the one who bought the phone.Agree it sounds very suspicious though.May you find your sister soon Helli.
