Energy Confusion

I was with Symbio and got reallocated to E-on Next when Symbio went bust. So far all is well but I was on a fixed rate and got transferred to a variable rate.
I have been offered the chance to save money and go onto their fixed rate, but should I?
MSE says stay put rather than switching for now, but does that just mean for folks who are going to switch provider in order to get a fixed rate, or does it include folks who are willing to give their new provider a chance before looking elsewhere? So far E-on have done me well so I am tempted to stick with them for a year or so and see how they do.
I don't get any of the "bonuses" that folks who can get dual fuel deals as I live in a rural area so have electricity and oil.
Help please? I'm usually pretty good at working through the dross but this one has be a little stumped...

You won't save money on a fixed rate, at the moment. The SVT you were put on during the SoLR process is the cheapest available from any supplier. They are all making a loss on it. Things may change when the cap is revised in April, so look out for the new cap figure when it is published in February. Also be aware that the government may make some intervention that may affect your decision.
  • Those that are solr sometimes get a six mth fix is that the case here or will it go up in April?

The clue's in the name; standard VARIABLE tariff. It will go up when the cap changes in April.

In the case of Symbio, they went bust at the start of October so six months on takes us to the start of April.
