How movable and refundable are Easyjet flights

We are thinking of taking the risk and booking flights only with easyjet this summer, rather than the obviously more covid secure package as we can get what we want for a few hundred pounds and packages are so much dearer overall- they say you can change your flight up to end of march which I am hoping will mean this year means we have more certainty this year, fingers crossed....

Few questions though for those more used to flying with easyjet under covid times please:

- if you book to a cheaper flight do they refund the difference
- of course as well as the flight there is is cost of luggage and seats. As all the cheap seats might go then we might book these. If we couldnt fly and lost the cost of the flight would we also lose this money? if we moved the flight do they also allow you to transfer this money to the new flight? Just trying to understand if this additional money is at risk
- for luggage we thought we would at this to the booking later in the year - again not wanting to put any more £ at risk. Are there any disadvantages to this please eg does the price often go up or space run out

Thanks in advance!!!!

As per the previous reply if your new dates are cheaper you get no refund.

I love the current Easyjet rules and will be sorry to see them go, I changed my flights a couple of times and it was really easy. I had booked rather expensive flights originally with pre booked seats and luggage, I ended up with better timed flights that originally had been more expensive but now cheaper, but due to plane being half empty they moved me into the exit premium seats as I had some ‘credit’ available from my earlier flight. Overall I still lost out a bit but I didn’t think it mattered as I had been happy to book when I did at the original price.

However, whilst you currently can change your flights you cannot cancel for a refund.

I don't agree - My fault really but on rebooking, EJ swapped the in and out destinations so that the initial flight was to the UK and the return was from the UK - a bit sneaky (and happened to someone else on here) so double check when you rebook.

I our experience, as said, not refund for booking a cheaper flight ... just extra for a dearer flight unless the flight is cancelled, then you can choose whichever flight you like (on the same route)  regardless of the price. It did however allow us to carry over our luggage and seat allowance
  • Thanks all - so overall we would lose seats and luggage spend as well if we had to cancel (we have a 15 year old who will be up to date with uk jabs but heaven only knows if the uk will keep up with european rules so she might not be able to travel) and I should have realised they wouldnt refund the difference

Oh well at least the risk is clearer, now to think about insurance......

You lose everything if *you* cancel, but if you move the flights yourself then, like I said, the luggage and seats carry over

Be aware that Isurance policies state that they will only cover claims for new advice or restrictions - i.e. not in place when the insurance was purchased or the holiday booked (whichever is later).

For example if you book a holiday to Spain now (where  full vaccination is a requirement )if this is still in place when you travel even with the best insurance policy - you won’t be able to make an insurance claim for cancelling for this reason.

I don't know where exactly you are travelling to but it's worth bearing in mind that with BA you don't lose everything. You can cancel up to an hour before the flight goes and you get a Flight Voucher for the amount of the flights, which can be used anywhere on their network, not just to that destination.

Worth bearing in mind - assuming BA go to the destination you want to go to.
  • We had flights booked in 2020 which had to be changed, moved the dates forward and paid extra for price difference in flights, had to change again and was charged more money, now we have had to move them forward to October this year and having looked at the prices of everything we have paid so far it seems that although they advertise no amendment fees unless variation in flight cost, if for example your first flight cost 100 and you amend it to 1 costing 75 there'd nothing to pay they keep the difference but if you then amend it to a flight costing 100 they want to charge the extra 25 even tho you've already paid it. Our initial flight cost £142 we've now paid them over £300 for 1 flight when if we were booking the same flight today it would cost us £197.

This has always been the case and is made clear on their website. It is also the case for most airlines that if you change flights on the basic fare you will not receive any credit back if you move to cheaper flights.
The difference now is that they are waiving flight change fees and allow changes up to 2 hours before which is a very good offer in my view.

Think of it this way , if the flight was not flexible/ changeable - you would have paid £142 initially with no refund when you decided not to travel.

Then you would have paid for a new ticket for the change in dates  so another £142+ ticket  X 3 ( I think you said that you have change 3 times ? )

So if the flight hadn’t been changeable for flights on 4 different dates  - you would by now have spent more than £623 by now.)

    (£142+ £142+£142+£197 )
