Our daughter has been having lessons for several months and has her test booked for next month

Now for the last few weeks I want to take her out in my car for some added practice.

What's the best way to insure her .. adding her name to my own policy, for a few weeks or by using one of the 'third party' type of short term insurers that I have seen online

thanks !

Depends on your current insurers and what level of certainty you have around the duration that'll be required.

You simply need to explore all options and workout which is best given your circumstances... for me it was to be added as a named driver to the normal policy, I know plenty of others that have done it as a temporary additional driver though plus Marmalade and others still exist so clearly the supplementary policy route works well for others.

Insuring learners isnt that bad, its when they pass the test that the cost increases significantly, particularly for young drivers.

I had some amazing quotes from Marmalade, c£70 to put my 18 year old on my 180BHP Golf Gti for 1 month, they do £120 for 60 days. I would have thought it would not affect my insurance either if the worst happened !

Learner drivers are surprisingly cheap on insurance, it's when you don't need to be in the car it gets expensive !
