Thanks.MWT said:StorageBox said:... And what it is BackBilling?Rule that prevents a supplier from additional billing for more than the previous 12 months when they have not issued a bill based on an accurate meter reading.I don't think this one is going to help you very much as it doesn't really cover a situation where you have not actually provided the supplier with any details with which they could bill you...I wasn't able to provide meter readings to *any* supplier due to the meter & address not existing on the National Database. I'd have been happy to do is if I'd been able to ...

Have you done the maths and put aside what you likely owe (will vary depending on actual tariff)StorageBox said:
I have the initial meter reading from when we moved in, and obviously the current reading.savers_united said:Do you have a smart meter? If not how did they decide on your usage? Is it an estimate or an actual reading that corresponds to what is being displayed on your meter.1 -
Ofgem's summary of the back billing rules: https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/information-consumers/energy-advice-households/check-energy-back-billing-rules
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -
I would incline to tell them that under back billing rules you should not be billed for more than a year and leave it to them to see if they can justify otherwise.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Well that is pretty much the point of my original post, i.e. since Sep 2020 has there been a cheaper tariff than SP's Basic Energy V2 that I could have been on, if it hadn't been for Scottish Power's incompetence ?tim_p said:

If so you must have used some figures so where did you get those from?Did you check any comparison sites in this time to see what tariffs would have been available?Have you also taken regular meter readings so you can make sure the billing is accurate for the periods where the tariff pricing has changed? If you have this information then i think you can argue that you would have changed tariffs as you were actively monitoring it. If you did nothing since originally trying to sort it out then your best bet is just to ask them to charge it at the cheapest tariffs they had available at the time.

The figures I posted are from the updated bill that SP have now generated now that the meter situation has been cleared up , based on 2 readings I've provided (taken Sep 2020 and Oct 2021), - they insist it is now correctly registered on the database.RogerBareford said:Well that is pretty much the point of my original post, i.e. since Sep 2020 has there been a cheaper tariff than SP's Basic Energy V2 that I could have been on, if it hadn't been for Scottish Power's incompetence ?

I have enough cash to pay up, I'm just wondering what scope there may be to negotiate a cheaper bill, given that I've been prevented from going with a potentially cheaper supplier.Did you check any comparison sites in this time to see what tariffs would have been available?During Sep 2020 to Oct 2021? No. As far as I was concerned, this was SP's problem and it was up to them to eventually 'find' me, if at all.No. I would have done had I been in a normal situation but again, I didn't see any need to do this.Have you also taken regular meter readings so you can make sure the billing is accurate for the periods where the tariff pricing has changed? Not unreasonable to be fair.If you did nothing since originally trying to sort it out then your best bet is just to ask them to charge it at the cheapest tariffs they had available at the time.
