Sounds a good deal?

I won't say the company, but I have been offered a Damp Proofing Policy for ten years to protect against Rising Damp for £99.00 + VAT Normally £350.00 + VAT

Basically if damp occurs they will fix it including any plastering etc free of charge. Looks good to me, any experts in this field?

Normally you have to get a survey and any works carried out before you can get the policy.
It will usually state that any future damp must then be solely caused by rising damp.
  • As part of the application you make a declaration there is no existing Rising Damp which there is not. Seems a no brainer to me.

"Normally" - you know this for fact or they say?
Are you sure that they will be around in, say, even 2 years? What is this warranty backed with?
Do you really need this warranty? Modern houses, if built correctly, are extremely unlikely to have this problem.

"fix" is a too vague word. Do you know what it actually means?

Normally £350.00, that is stated on their website and the Current cost for anyone outside the M25. This is inside M25 Only and limited to first 5,000 policies in 2022.

Its a well established company with hundred's of thousands of pounds on their accounts I checked at companies house.

Fix, means inject new Damp Couse using "Dryzone" and replaster.

Anyway I'm signing up because I get Section 75 protection using a credit card.

Thank you for the input appreciated.

If 5000 people each give them £100 they will have another half a million quid in their accounts for little or no effort.  Sounds like a no-brainer for them.

Selling something for £120 that apparently normally costs £420 smells a rat.
So does quoting price +VAT to private customers.
"hundred's of thousands of pounds" in few yeas can easily be in some other company with the same people.

    Good luck with S75!

In our road, neighbours are always having damp treated they are Victorian Town houses (very expensive ones too) so £99? to fix any damp in next ten years seems amazing! If you look at the company accounts and see £500,000 cash at the bank I cannot see them going anywhere. £99 is a wise punt!

It all sounds a bit too good to be true. Is the policy backed by any sort of insurance policy in case they go bust?

Also, check the policy wording very carefully for exclusions. You'll probably find that there's a very limited scope of scenarios where you can actually make a valid claim.
