British Gas phone in meter reading
A helpful forumite recently gave me a British Gas phone number (0800 072 8625) where I could communicate my electric meter reading.
This was a great relief after struggling for weeks to find any way of getting through the obstacles.
Failing to get access to my account on the website and going through a detailed chat session that came to naught, what a relief to be given a simple method of providing BG with the information they required.
Or was it?
I used Skype on my PC, because I don't have a landline. The call went through smoothly and I gave the pleasant, reassuring voice my meter reading when asked. I was told that the reading would be used at some future date.
BUT no name, address or account number was asked for and though my Skype settings included my mobile phone number, I can't help wondering if it was read at all by the process, or whether it would have been enough to identify me and my account even if it was.
Unfortunately, too many recent communication failures has left me wondering if this is yet another one.
Can anyone please reassure me?
