Parking Fine France

Back in 2014 my hire car was towed away as I had parked illegally in a street in France. I had to pay a fee to release it. When I got home I never paid the actual parking fine. I have not been back to France since. If I was to return on holiday and hired a car would this be flagged up?

Is anyone actually asking you to pay this and where do they say to send it to?
There are a couple of UK-based debt collectors/utter vultures who buy-up overseas tickets that authorities are unable to or simply can't be bothered to enforce for a pittance and attempt to scare payment out of people.
If its one of those, post four of the Newbies Sticky covers them completely.
