Carpet fitting quote 2 bedroom house

Hi
Currently doing some work on my father's house. Using a chap who started a house rennovation business who has so far done all painting and decorating and arranged electrics. He got me a quote for carpetting house. I don't know exact size of rooms but its
1 living room (approx 5m X 4)
2 small bedrooms
lower hallway, stair with 13 steps
total 61 sq m
Orignal cost was £1500.. then apparently they realised it had stone floors and quoted £2800. I thought this was a big jump, they offered reduced cost of £2400 including uplift of old carpet.
I haven't chosen any carpets aside from a neutral colour, so it's entirely based on the above. Thanks for any advice!
