How do you update the details on a cat's microchip?

Hi all
Sorry if it's a silly question but our mum passed away in November, and we need to change the details associated with the chips of her 2 cats... How do you actually do that? I have the chip numbers...

Do you know who the chips are registered with? Google their name ... 

If you don't, do you know (or suspect you know) which vet would have done this? Ask them who they use?

Ah so there is not one "chip" organisation that stores all the details? That would have been handy!
I will ask the Vet - as they are the ones who gave me the chip numbers :-)
