14 night trial

I recently bought a mattress topper with a 14 night trial. After finding the topper not suitable as its too hot and doesn't stay in place I contacted the supplier to return it expecting them to come and collect it but  unfortunately I didnt read the (very small) print which says the return is at my expense.

Now the topper is a king size memory foam, which expands on release from the packing so is going to cost £25.00 to £30.00 plus to return and goodness knows how I am going to repackage it !
Is the company allowed to do this with a trial item ? and if so should they not supply something suitable to return the item in ( its size will be around 160 x 50 x 50cm.

Thanks in advance.
Nic

Yes that is allowed and how 99.9% of these trails work.

Just keep it that is surely the cheaper option if it is a cheap memory foam item?

It's the same as any change your mind distance purchase where you have to pay the return postage, but in this case you actually get to try it too!

You could have some fun trying to package it up again, and will just have to think of it as £25 for 14 nights of using it. The £150 you'll then get back is no doubt more than you'd get selling it on.

The other angle is arguing that it was not fit for purpose e.g. it does not stay on the bed. In which case they need to collect it...

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Can’t the topper be folded into a sturdy box?

Parcelforce will take a relatively large sized box for around £10 or £11 via Parcel2go.

Or if you book on the Parcelforce website it will be more but IIRC comes with £100 cover and ‘compensation’ for late delivery.

    Thanks for your reply.
The topper is the same principle as a mattress in a box so is vacum packed to within an.inch of its life.
Its around 3 times the size of the box it originally came out of.

Yes they can make the customer pay for return postage if it is in the T&C.  At least one of the companies who advertise on TV actually show that on screen during the advert.

You can buy the vacuum pack bags. Connect to your Vac to make it as small as possible.
