That was a fascinating read. Thank you for telling your story. I am replying so I will get notified of any updates.
Anyway, I was going to make the point that perhaps your gas meter is indeed too far away, but then you were told yourself. I tried (stupidly?) to get a smart meter installed myself; the engineer came, but he told me that I couldn't get one because the gas meter is outside and too far away from the electricity meter. In theory I could get the latter, but not the former, but no point in doing that, is there, so we left it at that.1 -
Easily said than done. I live alone, my dad is 73 and housebound and my nearest friend is 45 miles away and she doesn't visit me... I have this year utilised workmen when they have been to my home to do repairs to kindly read my meter and they have obliged, but in the long run it is not the ideal option.welshmoneylover said:OP, any reason you can’t read the meter yourself and submit them online? For years EON said no to a smart meter installation when I asked for one after being bombarded with offers of having one. They were always saying it was because I was in a flat. When they did finally want to fit one sending a beautiful letter telling me I could now have a smart meter, I jumped at the chance and even checked with the call centre handler before booking the appointment that it would definitely work in a flat, I even confirmed to them where my meters were located and he said it was not a problem to now install a new smart meter and it would make it easier for me to get accurate bills.
I now believe it was a case of forcing smart meters on people in order to meet targets perhaps.
And check out the email from EON this morning, you couldn’t make this up…

Well they paid out the £30 for the failed appointment last week, just noticed it has been added to my account.
Been reading about EON Next… looks like fun and games when the switch occurs!0
