Daliah said:Are you certain you were on the actual computershare site and not some sort of a clone? Having to enter the bank details again, not getting a confirmation email, and not having a contract note on file all sounds rather odd.I took care to register on the actual Computershare site. Sure enough, after registering online, they held the details of my aunt’s shareholding she’d previously only received in paper statements, I can’t see how a scammer could have got hold of those unless Computershare have had a shocking data breach. And anyway, given the only bank details I provided were sort code and account number, there’s no way they could have stolen anything. Hopefully I’ll find out more this morning.0

I phoned Computershare and it seems (though they were a bit vague) that the shares were never sold. The reason they hold no shares is that they terminated their Corporate Sponsored Nominee (CSN) service for Colfax just before Xmas and so they are now on the US-maintained Colfax Corporation share register. So now I’ve got to call the US to find out about them. This is pretty frustrating because when I thought I’d sold the shares the Computershare website gave no indication that the transaction had failed, however they evidently have no record of the sale, which would at least explain why I had no email confirmation of it. But at least it does look as if my worst fears haven’t been realised.4

Thought I’d better leave a footnote to this thread. It’s taken a long time, however I’ve finally been able to confirm that the shares are now being managed by Equiniti in the US and haven’t disappeared down a black hole. A bit of a nuisance as it would have been easier to sell them while Computershare were still responsible for them, but no disaster. Thanks for all your help.10
