Howdy !
I hope somebody can advise about the above . Slightly complicated to explain .
1) I receiced an email which I thought was from my friend . ( my friend has a double sounding name say , smithjones no hyphen)
Email from Fred jones . It was a link from the Daily mail about losing weight . I moved that to junk after opening it . ( hopefully no harm done in opening it 🤞)

2) my Facebook account is under a virgin email I had back in the mid 2000's ages old . I do have Facebook messenger which my personal trainer gives me a weekly video workout on once a week . I don't use Facebook anymore . I was going to delete it altogether, but I went into the Facebook preferences a couple of months ago almost deleting my account keeping just the messenger app .
So the message I got from Facebook ; Hi AC we've noticed you're having trouble with logging into your account .." etc
There is a Log In With One Click button should I want to use that . ( yeah, right 😸)
Regarding Facebook , the onl thing I could imagine is that the trainer has inadvertently done something that has triggered off this email.
As for the other 🤔🤷 no idea . I set the email to ":unread "
Btw , my main account is Gmail ..
Thanks in advance .

Just delete any emails you are not sure of and move on is general advice, spammer / phishing can easily obtain your email address and some basic info about your friends and contact to make things look realistic.
Contact the non-hyphen double barrel name friend by phone and ask if they sent to a link / email if you want to be sure.
You can move your Facebook account to your main gmail address if you prefer and enable 2 factor authentication for Facebook.
Make sure all your email accounts have a long complex password and 2 factor authentication enabled.
If you re-use the same password with multiple accounts, stop that now, change them all to something different.
I don't actually know any of my passwords to any of my online accounts or email, they are all too complex, things like:
_~wZ'W3$W:wAF#dL
What I do know is a single 35 character password to my password manager and that is all I need to remember.2 -
Thanks very much @[Deleted User].😼👍
A lot of my passwords are keychain passwords suggested by apple , similar to the example you have given . Yes it's true to vary passwords for everything .If I could delete facewipe, and just keep messenger that would be preferable .Have to be so careful these days..0 -
The last spam/hack attempt I received came via Messenger - just saying.Jenni x2

Looking at your sentance seems to concur with my situation .I received one " genuine " post from messenger from an aquaintance I know , wishing me a happy Christmas etc. I of course did the same , but let him know I don't use facewipe anymore . Got no response so I assume that was that .If my trainer would only use zoom instead , then I'd probably delete messenger and facewipe and things would be better ..0 -
What about WhatsApp? (Although that is also now part of Facebook Meta).Jenni x2

We didn't repeat it . I also rightly or wrongly , thought of it as an app that is prone to corruption . It seems like I was wrong , as I am out of touch with the latest trends
Tik tok doesn't appeal at all, and I treat tw@tater like the devil and avoid ..
nearly forgot to mention that a few of my family use what's app and have conversations with nieces / nephews etc and tbh I think it all gets too messy and I can't be bothered with it all, if that makes any sense 😸0 -
Use 2FA Never click links in emails. Hover on links for the address etc., and you should be OK.
