Fridge freezer

Options
I’m having a fridge freezer delivered 2 weeks before I move. Will it be ok to lay down in the van for 20 mins whilst I move and then plug in or does it truly have to be left standing for 24 hours.

They're not designed to be moved around. Keep any transit bolts and/or fixings that come with it so that you can put them back on for the move. I'd do whatever it says in the manual for initial delivery. It will presumably have a warranty, which could be invalidated if you don't follow the instructions, although difficult to prove.
Do you have to use it before you move, or can you leave it in its packaging? That might be easier. Also, will it have to lie down in the van? That could cause problems. If you're using a removals company, I would say not, but if it's a DIY move than maybe you have no choice.

You'll have to let it stand for a few hours, I've heard anything from 4 to 24, take your pick!
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

You should never lay a fridge/freezer on its back as oil can leak into the tubes & may not empty when put upright. But if you put it in a van at 45 deg it should be ok. Plus as others have said leave it for about 4hours upright before switching on
  • It’s not being taken out of its packaging at all. Unfortunately it will be laid down in the van I’m borrowing for a 20 min drive.

Can you postpone delivery till you are in your new address?

That seems the most sensible thing to do.

  • I would be leaving it 24 hours to be safe not 4 hours.
And lay it on its side not front or back.

I'd agree with this.  24 hours is always recommended.  I suspect this may be a bit "belt 'n' braces", but I would always say leave it at least 4 hours at an absolute minimum - if you can leave it for 12 or 24 hours this is better.

  • Thanks all. Appreciate the input
