I have been driving for 5 years now, and really struggle with big roundabouts or big roads with lots of different options, normal road I’m ok.

For example there’s one near my house, if  you in the wrong lane you end up straight on motorway there’s like 5/6 lanes on the same road  and roundabout it’s really hard to judge etc

Sometimes I have no choice but to use these routes to go to cousins etc,

Lucky my family been there or it’s late or early so no traffic.

But other times I have end up on motorway and I never drive on motorway otheriwse.

I feel like I will never get hang of these roads, unlike other people I have very bad directions I could for example I been going cousins house since I was born and still need sat nav for it.

I need to sort this out, because I can’t afford to end up on motorway, it can be dangerous.

What would be best option so it’s second nature, too me?

either get a satnav which talks you through the lane changes, exits to take or have a navigator to shout instructions at you.  I need to do this for the OH who has a mental block about certain roundabouts and an appalling sense of direction in general.  I can visualise the journey easily but I know that not everyone is like that and are both confused by directions and overwhelmed by the amount of information they need to deal with while operating a moving vehicle.

The multi-lane roads should have signs above them for destination, so follow them and give yourself time to change into the appropriate lane.

You can use Google maps and street view in advance, and Google maps on your phone will show you which lane to take if you are using it for directions.

If you get stuck in the wrong lane, indicate to cross and most people should let you. If you pass the point of it being safe then just continue on the land you're in and try to figure out a new route at leisure. A sat nav will reroute on the fly.

Which is best satnav, for some reason, on  google maps it’s says stay on left when I should stay on right it’s wrong, for the big road other routes it’s good.

I did use to find all driving, hard but as I’ve had to drive their loads and no motorways easy now, I still find changing lanes tough, when there’s loads of cars.

Yes, I could afford driving lessons but even with that I just don’t feel it will make a difference when I’m alone.

I have not problems on the roads I use.

for thouse people who say I should not drive I’ve not had a accident in 3 years and been driving 6/7 days a week.

it’s just the times, I have to visit my cousin., and I avoid these roads because I find them hard so of course it just get harder without practice.

I’m happy to seek assistance what should I do

  • If you have no problems on the road then why are you happy to seek assistance?
