Cliffside London - refusing refund

Chargebacks do not cover your legal rights.cx6 said:She could try for a chargeback on her bank card on the grounds that the site is breaking the law by not allowing a return.
They are card regulations over & above your legal rights. 👍
>>Refunds
We will notify you once we’ve received and inspected your return, and let you know if the refund was approved or not. If approved, you’ll be automatically refunded on your original payment method. Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund too.<<

I rarely buy anything online myself (unlike my wife!) but one of the really valuable tips I picked up on this board was to look carefully at certain parts of the website.ConfusedSC said:
I totally agree. I was tempted to leave her to it as it was her own mistake. She knows she should have checked with me first, I wouldn’t have let her order from that site. Apparently being popular on Instagram and knowing her boyfriend liked the jumper was the go ahead she needed. Kids, eh!elsien said:There’s no sign anywhere on the website of a UK presence or address, that I can see. Something your daughter might want to check in future with online orders.- always check their returns policy and make sure (1) that returns go to a UK address and (2) that the returns policy does not contradict any of your statutory consumer rights in the UK.
- avoid sites with bad grammar and strange non-sequiters.
- Check what country's laws govern the contract.
- make sure "How to contact us" isn't just an email. If there's a 'phone number, ring it and see what the response is. Does it seem to be the company in question?
- NEVER BUY ANYTHING ADVERTISED ON FACEACHE FACEBOOK!
- I'm sure others can provide other tips.
Pass the above onto your daughter and tell her to tell her friends...1 -
I do the above and also look at the 'about us' page for any website I've never used before.
I also make sure I'm on the legit website.
I also read the T&Cs.
I was very amused to read that the Dr Marten (scam) website someone had posted on here about using would not accept returns of swimwear if the hygiene strip wasn't still in place.
Dr Marten selling swimwear...?

As above - and I also check the WHOIS entry for any website I've not had dealings with before ... if they're hiding behind a privacy-type notice then I think "what have they got to hide?"Jenni x1

There are photos on the site showing people very clearly in the UK wearing actual Cliffside branded clothing, which may be a positive sign - unless Cliffside is an existing clothing brand and the site has just stolen the photos. My instinct is that this is a genuine attempt at a company by people who don't know what they're doing, rather than an out and out scam.2

It's fairly easy to find people on sites like Fiverr who will happily model clothing for peanuts.outtatune said:There are photos on the site showing people very clearly in the UK wearing actual Cliffside branded clothing, which may be a positive sign - unless Cliffside is an existing clothing brand and the site has just stolen the photos. My instinct is that this is a genuine attempt at a company by people who don't know what they're doing, rather than an out and out scam.
It definitely shouldn't be taken as any indication that the site is actually based in the UK, purely because there are a few shots of someone wearing clothing in what is obviously the UK (is it obviously the UK?)

It doesn't really change the fact that their models appear to have been bribed on social media to model for them and could be located anywhere, including London. Nor the fact that where these models are based has no bearing on where the company is based.
In fact I'd argue that these models clearly taking their own photos, rather than having a professional photographer is indicative of them being up to no good. Surely a London-based outfit can take their own professional photos in London?0
