Landlord wants me to pay for mould that was there before me

So where is the Extractor fan in the bathroom ?
Does it come on when you turn on the bathroom light ?
Does it have a timer that runs the fan for 5/10 minutes after you have turned out the light !
The Landlord has a responsibility to provide a safe home fit for human habitation and in 2021/22 this should include ventilation in the bathroom.
Has the bathroom got a window you can open while showering ?
However you as a Tenant also need to act in a Tenant like manner and report in writing /email or messenger any issues with the property.
Point out to the Landlord that the bathroom does not have an extractor fan and mould was a problem before you moved in and you will dispute any and all deductions.
If the LL asks you to clean the walls and ceiling with bleach and water that would be a good idea0 -
There is wrong on both sides here.
However, the LL shouldn't be asking you to fix this.0 -
I rented a flat a while ago. No window in the bathroom and extractor fan not much good. It never occurred to me not to clean the mould off.2

Surely the sticking point here is the OP had a contractual duty to notify the landlord of any defects which develop during their tenancy. Not sure the landlord can make them pay for it but they should certainly have been notified there was an issue so it could be remedied before it got beyond reasonable wear and tear.0

Sounds like the OP is responsible for this having got worse. There is a big difference between a few spots on moving in and a ceiling covered in mould when moving out.
Also a responsibility to report the issue. Think it depends exactly what and how much the landlord is asking for.1 -
