When do I tell the DVLA about a write off?

Hi all,
My car is an insurance write off. I've agreed a payout but am waiting for the payment to go into my bank account. When do I transfer ownership via the V5c form/inform the DVLA?
If the date of sale is from when payment has been received, I presume I have to wait?
Thank you.

Your insurer will inform the DVLA/MIAFTR of the total loss; they'll also instruct you on what to do with the V5c2

I didn't wait for the pay out when my car was written off to let DVLA know, I put the date down as the date it was handed to them.

Admiral has given me the salvage services details. Does anyone know whether I declare them as the new owners or do I give DVLA Admiral's details?0
