New build house:choosing energy supplier

I have moved to a newbuild and was told to wait until I receive first bill then choose my preferred supplier. I'm still paying energy bills at my old house with Scottish Power until it sells. Should I simply switch to Scottish Power for my new house as that comes out the best in Energy Club deals? I've read much about not switching in present situation but what about people in my situation? Explanations and suggestions are welcomed!

Your developer will have already entered into a supply arrangement. Part of the handover process should be the reading of the meters. You will be on a deemed contract with the supplier to the property at legal completion. Call them with your details and the meter readings and you are then free to remain with them or switch to a new supplier. If you remain with the deemed supplier you will be on the Ofgem capped tariff. I doubt that you will find anything cheaper at the moment.2

Jumping onto this as I moved into my new build last week. Development is supplied by British Gas and they are quoting approx £92 on variable and £146 on a 2 year fixed (dual fuel). I'm inclined to just stick with BG and go with the variable in the hope that the price hike isn't actually as high as the prediction.

Yes, stick with the SVT. Have another look at the market nearer April to see if there is anyhting better than the (almost certainly) higher SVT rate.
