They can be very slow to to correct things. Are you using their online system (help.equifax.co.uk)? Have they responded saying they won't change it (and if so why) or have they just not reponded?

When they were really slow to correct my info I lodged a complaint and got it sorted in a few days.

When they do eventually fix it they could end up putting a notice of correction on your file, they have a habit of doing that. Make sure you get that removed it they do - without them reversing the change you requested before.

All in all in took about 3 months for them to update my electoral register info with lots of issues and complaints along the way. They're a nightmare.
  • Yes used the online system which they raised a case for the dispute, which now says resolved but checking it its not, it seems like they have corrected one part but incorrectly changed another part, it's kind of baffling me ! I'm due to remortgage for a better deal but this is having an impact as there is a ccj against the address I have no knowledge of

Submit a complaint. And when it is eventually resolved, make sure there is no notice of correction. A notice of correction can slow down a credit application and shouldn't be applied anyway if they accept the correction - Equifax don't get this. I've had them tell me the notice of correction goes up because I requested a change. That is wrong, they accepted the correction, end of. A notice of correction should only apply, for example, if you think data is misleading or incorrect but are unable to change it so they allow to to add an explanation.

Are you remortgaging with a new lender or your current lender? A lot of lenders don't carry out additional credit checks for a product switch. Obviously, though, even if you wont be credit checked for a remortgage you still want your credit report resolved long term.

CCJ's are against people, not addresses.

If there is a CCJ registered against you, at this "incorrect address" you need to get to the bottom of it.  It's possible you've been incorrectly linked to someone with the same name, although very unlikely.  It's also possible, especially depending  on how incorrect this address is, that you've had a CCJ registered against you and they got the address wrong.
  • Thank you MaryNB for your advice
  • Trust me I have tried, from ringing courts in London ( where the address is ) to solicitors who dealt wiv the case in London who actually stated it can't possibly be you because the date of births don't match ! So it's definitely an error on having the same name

As another poster points out, County Court Judgements are against an individual or a company, not ever against any particular address.

You say that  "there is a ccj against the address I have no knowledge of".

I`d be interested to know how you came by this information, because no such thing exists, a judgement would be against a name, so that points to the fact that somewhere down the line, you have been linked to this other person, through an incorrect address.

If they have not corrected your information to your satisfaction, then keep pressing them.
