Where to buy a flat close to London

Dear All,
Many thanks in advance!
I just got a job in Moorgate, London. In order to get to the office faster, I am looking to purchase a one or two-bedroom flat for me to stay 3 nights during the week. I don't know London at all. Could someone recommend me a place to search? I was checking Reading / Woking, but it would be nice if I could avoid the train journey too.
Many thanks in advance!

Ideally you could get something on the direct national rail line to Moorgate- depends how much you want to spend, you could try anything as close as Finsbury Park to as far out as Welwyn Garden City, Hertford, Stevenage etc - so there’d be no need for a tube commute the other side.
where are you living now? Reading/Woking to Moorgate is quite a long distance for a pied a terre, you might be better off looking for a studio flat nearer the office. Alternatively Premier Inn is decently priced, as low as £50/night in Aldgate which is only a couple of tube stops away1 -

Moorgate is also easy walking distance from Liverpool Street, less than half a mile, so that's another route to consider1

Salisbury and Oxford are miles apart. Which would you be coming from?
My thought would be to look north (Oxford) and south (Salisbury) on the Northern Line. My eldest son currently lives in Brixton and with a quick change at Stockwell, he can be in the office in Borough in less than 30 mins, door-to-door. Three stops more to Moorgate.0 -

You're going to need substantially more than 250k for a flat within walking distance in that part of the world. Best to look along the tube or train lines that run straight in and go from there. Should imagine you're going to need to head out to Zone 4/5 with a budget of £250k if you want anything more than a garage!2

Cuffley and Potters Bar are on the train journey in to Moorgate , you may pick up a flat in those areas around your budget.
Theres also a fast line in to Liverpool street runs through Broxbourne and Cheshunt and certainly there should be 1 bed flats in your price range close by
both are about a 20-30 minute commute in to london on the right service2 -

The OP needs to work out what he needs. Is it just a bed for the night, in which case somewhere grotty but cheapish will do. Or, does he want to be able to go for pleasant walks in the area?
There are a few underground lines that serve Moorgate or nearby stations, plus Thameslink.
Edit - Sorry, not Thameslink. I meant the Hertford and Welwyn lines. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?2
