Sorry, I did search before I posted it and Laks post didn't come up - that will be because the link was hidden behind the words "Sainsbury's Magazine" (as they are in my post, but I also posted the link separately so that it does show up in the search facility).

This seems an odd way of posting a competition though, posting it on 22/12 before the magazine is on sale and before anyone could possibly have completed the crossword in order to get the answer required to enter the competition.

Wouldn't it make more sense to post it once someone has bought the magazine and done the crossword and thereby has the answer (as I did today), as the competition cannot be entered unless you purchase the magazine which then means it's not a free to enter comp.  I don't believe any of the puzzle magazines are posted in this way are they?

    Hi,

The search never finds anything for me either lol.

The Sainsbury's Magazine competitions are always online before the magazine actually hits the stores. Laks has always added the competitions together at the same time. With the crossword one, like you say, it cannot be entered until the magazine comes out. I have posted the answer for about 4-5 years and have always posted on Laks thread that I will pick up the magazine when it comes in to the store. I normally do this because if I don't somebody always asks if anyone has the answer, so find it best to explain in anticipation.

I believe that there is a cost limit on competitions (ie Mags) which this falls under but I believe this is under the limit (I buy the mag every month anyway)

I suppose the quick answer is it's just the way it's been done for ages

No worries @rosegarden - I've been away from the forum for quite some time, so if that's the way it's done, I won't post the competition or answer again.  Thanks and good luck for 2022 :)
