I will keep it brief, Brilliant energy went bust in 2019 and CDs solutions in may 2019 demands a payment of £234.07.  I make contact take a screen shot of my direct debit coming out for this amount in November 2018. I moved supplier before they went bust.
I had a response saying all was cleared i just had a final balance outstanding of £31.02 once they looked into the whole situation. I paid that amount and matter closed, or so I thought.
I now have an email demanding payment of £93.63 as special reduced rate from the debt of £234.07 from abd debt recovery in Salford. They have given me five days to settle or will apply a mark on my credit file.
I have tried to make contact on 0208 058 6067 the number they supplied, this number just cuts off.  I have emailed in the reply with the above evidence but don't hold much hope of a reply.  My concern is my credit file, I owe nothing yet they are about to trash my credit file.
My question is how to proceed ? I have no way of making a voice contact so I'm at a loss how to prove my situation.
And advice on the above, and if they do mark credit file how I go forward with that matter. Thanks in advance

Quite a few people have posted comments over on this thread - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6322778/solarplicity-debt-collection-scam - It would appear that ex-customers of Solarplicity, Northumbria Energy, and Brilliant Energy have been targeted. General consensus is it is a scam and not to respond to any emails or pay the demand. Report it to Action Fraud.

If this outfit does apply an adverse marker to your credit file, sue them for damages.

Thank you for the support. It's one less hassle I could do without. I am currently dealing with the aftershock of my gas and electric company going bust and a massive price rise as a result.
  • Had the same email and have just reported it on the 101 police line.
It has been passed on to Greater Manchester Police to investigate.
The call handler suggested everyone should do likewise.
  • Hi I've also had an email from ABD recovery for a historic debt but to FUTURE energy who went bust early 2018. Likewise they knew the correct amount owed and offered me a reduced amount of £167 if I paid in the next 5 days. I had paid off my account April 2021. I suspected scam and forwarded the email to;
    report@phishing.gov.uk
but thank you for confirming that it's a scam, although I did reply to the dodgy email to say I wasn't going to pay!!!! oops.
  • This is a scam!
I also had this email regarding Brilliant Energy which went bust in 2019.
It almost fooled me into paying as it had my name on the letter and ABD Recovery is listed with Companies House although the company is shown as dormant.

I then double checked my final bill from Brilliant Energy in 2019 and that it had indeed been paid by my bank.  So it seems that this is definitely a scam.

It appears that the scammers have got hold of the names and email addresses of customers from energy companies that have gone out of business.

I have reported the email to Action Fraud and recommend that everyone else does so that it can be assessed how widespread this scam is.  As so many energy companies have recently gone out of business, I am concerned just how many people might end up being affected and consequently being scammed into paying.
