I was given a credit note from our travel company in July of last year
Can I claim this back as the date for us to use the note is at the end of jan 2022

No, once you accept a credit note you are confirming acceptance of it.
No harm in asking though, or even getting them to agree to extend it.
Extension would really be about why it was a credit note in the first place, did you need to reschedule or did they cancel on you and convince you to take a credit note?
If it was the first then you rights are limited, if it was the second then it may be unfair to have a date on it in the first place.0 -
Some did have an 'if not used by x date, you can have the cash' term - but most don't.
In most cases if you don't use it by the end of the date, you lose the money. Can't hurt to ask for an extension but you're entitled to a cash refund if this isn't mentioned on the note.0
