Retailer probably thinking customer has made no effort to contact them to pay outstanding balance that there owedAaronFGriffiths said:What I'm disputing is the fact that no effort was made to contact me and a credit agreement has been set up again in my name without permission or even my knowledge.
If you've being refunded, you shouldn't need finance for the remaining balance owed0 -
But if I understand your opening post correctly - and I'm not sure if I do, but I'm willing to be put right if I'm mistaken - it's not so much that they have set up an account, but rather that they have re-opened an account that had wrongly been closed down after money was refunded to you that should not have been. Isn't that what has happened? (Like I suggested in my earlier post at 9:15pm?)What I'm disputing is the fact that no effort was made to contact me and a credit agreement has been set up again in my name without permission or even my knowledge.
I suspect that IKANO and/or SCS may not have dealt with this as well as they could have done, but it seems to me that you still owe one of them some money and that they might feel you have not been as forthcoming as you might have been.
When you got the money back from IKANO, did you not stop and say to yourself "This can't be right. SCS have already accounted for this as a credit against my replacement sofa. I shouldn't have this refund"? Or are you saying that under the terms of your resolution with SCS that you are entitled to both the new sofa AND a refund?
[Edit: It might be helpful if you could provide some detail of what money transactions have taken place and their values]1 -
But did you contact them when the payment was refunded which was clearly an error? It works both ways...AaronFGriffiths said:What I'm disputing is the fact that no effort was made to contact me and a credit agreement has been set up again in my name without permission or even my knowledge.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)1 -

I suspect what happened is how Manxman_in_exile described. The OP likely received the refund they knew they weren’t entitled to, thought they were quids in and decided to keep quiet. After 2 years they expected they’d got away with it and had probably forgotten about it and are now angry they’re being asked to pay.
OP, you still owe the money. You don’t have to have the finance but if you don’t you’ll need to settle the bill with a different payment method. Given it’s a sofa I expect it’s a reasonable sum of money and therefore I doubt this’ll just go away.0
