Recent BG losses, SMT etc. What's up?

Options
I'm about to sink under water on my investments in BG products. I've had a really good run but over the last 6 weeks it's been nonstop red red red. Health Innovation is particularly dire. Is there any news or fund manager reports I can access. I feel like I'm in the dark totally.

6 weeks is nothing really, especially when you think of the Omicron variant that has disrupted a fair few funds/trusts of late.

As you've stated you've had a good run. I only recently (4 months ago) put some dosh into SMT, and it is still in the red now .

Remember, it's time in the market. Don't try and 'time' the market. That's a very tricky thing to achieve.

You likely bought them after much of their 2020 rise rather than before. So you are seeing a bit of a mean reversion back to the norm mostly like not helped by the rising interest rates that are looming. Investors have been gradually switching from growth stocks into more of your traditional stuff like banks and commodities. This could go on for years or be already over - hard to say.

How does performance compare to the most relevant indexes?

Yes. There are more reports than you can shake a stick at. Your starting point might be your broker's website. There are lots of sources of information, some reliable, some not. Every company in every fund produces an annual report. Larger companies produce regular trading updates. Brokers provide recommendations and sector reviews.

If you are not used to reading annual reports and company announcements, it might be worthwhile not to make any major investment decisions until you have become used to reading the announcements of a particular company. There is plenty of material advising how to interpret company announcements. It's important to know that, however bad things are going for a company, the announcements will usually find some reason for optimism.

If you have had a really good run presumably you have held them for more than a year. If so, how did you react in Feb/March 2021 and why is this different?

What attracted you to BG in the first place? When did you start investing in their funds?

Have a look at their major holdings and what's going on with them and also take a look at the respective investment trust/funds' websites as, in addition to annual and interim reports, many produce monthly factsheets with some commentary.

Moderna has lost getting on for 50% since its peak in late Nov, this accounts for 10.5% of SMT so that has likely had an impact I'd guess. Alot of gains in 2020/earlier 2021 were driven by Tesla but they have reduced their holding and upped Moderna (i think.....I have a small amount of SMT since mid 2020 and buy a small amount every month).
    Cheers, Stu

I guess people sometimes get worried because some funds do starting to go on a gradual decline. Unlikely the case with SMT considering their long track record. Some people also concerned because James Anderson is stepping down
