Average energy bill query

Hello

I appreciate this will have been asked I’m sure more than once and I’ve looked through the forums for similar questions

We are at the end of my gas/electric deal with SO Energy. To be honest I’m complete lost as to what a standard bill and usage per month should look like so would appreciate any help

We have a 2 bedroom terraced upper built in 1900s recently renovated with Hive installed. Current bill is around £102 a month for gas/electric and a renewal is looking to put it to £166 a month for a 2 year fixed. Our previous 1 bed flat with 2 people was about £80 per month

I work from home 5 days a week. I think I’m particular our heat is on too much and will be reducing use of tumble dryer.

I’ve put the most recent readings below which are also going to be higher with Christmas etc

I wanted to know - do these usages look about average per month? And is the £166 per month a fairly standard tariff now given the energy price rises?

    Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately only 22 days' worth of actual measured consumption during a holiday period tells us very little.  You need to find some actual meter readings from a year ago.  Stop thinking in DD amounts or m3, compare kWh usage from actual meter reads, never estimates.
That said, comparisons with other households are still fairly meaningless because there are still too far too many variables (tropical or temperate preferences, appliance efficiencies, latitude, sheltered / exposed location, insulation, sunny / shaded etc, etc).
The average usage is 12000kWh for gas and 2900kWh for electricity.

    Hi,
is the 'bill' based on usage or what your DD is?
You don't need to fix then get tied in with hefty exit fees.
The current advice if to default to the capped rate 'fixed' until April' then see how things are.

  • Hello

thanks for the reply - that all makes total sense. Meter reading from a year ago below. We had gas fitted in the house on 8 Jan last year

    Energy 3 Jan 2020 - 71002

    Gas 8 January 2020 - 1798.0

Hello - the bill that has been offered is based on what the DD is

You seem to be a huge user of energy. In a little under a year you have used 8400kWh of electricity (3x the average) and 3900 cubic metres of gas, 43000 kWh (3.5x the average).
Are those readings from "a year ago" actually from two years ago? You do say 2020, which is two years?

It was from two years ago, first mistake of 2022 thinking we are going into 2021!🤦‍♂️ My apologies.

Ok, we've all done that before
Now you're just a high user. Average is 2900kWh of electricity and 12000kWh of gas (about 1100 cubic metres) per year, currently costing around £105 a month. For two people in a terraced house your use is still quite a lot.
