New Aesthetics Business… HELP!

Hi everyone,

I wasn’t sure what category to put my query under but I wondered if someone could help. Basically my friend owns an aesthetic business and has asked me to start working in the clinic with her. I will not be directly employed by her but will be classed as ‘self-employed’ and I will be paying her a percentage of each treatment completed and this will be the price for ‘renting a chair’ as such.

Do I have to be classed as a sole trader/self-employed? If this is the case, I’m wondering is there any possible way for me to protect my personal assets for if anything happened such as a client ever sued for whatever reason as obviously my friend will have that protection being a limited company, but my understanding is that I won’t? Is there any way around this in the short term aside from eventually opening up my own business in which I would be able to register as a limited company.

I would appreciate any advice on this. Thanks.

    look at professional indemnity insurance?

The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....
  • Agree, that is exactly what you should be doing - without such i'd be surprised if you were legally allowed to practice.

You'll be self employed, you'll be paying her a commission on each treatment you do, all onus is on you now because your premises, your clients, your treatment and advice ..... all on you and you should be protecting yourself and your clients against any untoward situation.

You'll need an accountant/accounting system and possibly need to buy some/all of your own equipment.

Don't go into this lightly or blindly, make contingencies, and plenty of due diligence, and then this could be a good way to get yourself experienced and working for yourself without having to give that percentage over to someone else every month.
