The Ebac's do the job, but are prone to issues.  Do NOT rely on them to switch off when full, and always have a cloth under the water outlet, when emptying the water container.
  • There are two technologies for them. Compressors work a bit like a fridge, are lower cost to run but their name plate 40l will be a lot less as that's usually tested at 40°C. An 8l dessicating dehumidifier may be better if your rooms get cold. It blows air through dessicant and then heats the dessicant and with it the air coming out. Costs more to run but potentially quicker for clothes drying as an application. If really just for clothes drying you'd do worse than Meaco for a dessicant. They are very enthusiastic about them and mines gone strong for 8+ years and still working well

We inherited a washer dryer from the inlaws and I hate it.  There's no vent on it so it needs to drain the water off (currently using a hose into a bucket) and drying a medium load of knickers/tshirts can take a couple of days running nonstop.  I keep telling the OH that we should replace it with a proper vented dryer (would be quite easy to install) and that we would likely save the price of it in reduced electricity costs within a very short time.

Frankly I'm not too unhappy about having drying simply hanging on a rack by the rads as we don't have a condensation problem.  But due to needed to do frequent washing of linens and towels a decent dryer would be handy.  For that stuff I'm taking a large bag to the laundromat every other week at £20 a time.  Not good economy!!!

Why would you pay to wash linen & towels at the laundrette when you have a perfectly good washer at home? Just run it on a wash-only cycle, and use those radiators to dry them? £10 a week over half the year is a fast-spin washer or a vented dryer!
