Dreaded payroll question

Options
Hi guys

im a self employed electrician.
I work for an agency
the Agency pay me via a payroll company.

in my weekly statement payroll is £20 a week charge.

so this comes out first, then CIS tax is taken off and I’m given what is left.

my question is, is this an expense for the business?

If so can I claim this £20 as a business expense?

many thanks

matt

Could you ask the agency what it is? If money is being taken and you don't know why, it's the best place to start. It could even be an error but you need to know what it's for.

The OP knows why the £20 is being charged.  That's not his question.

Have you got an Accountant or do you do your own tax? If the former, ask them. If the latter, you might find someone with business tax knowledge over on https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/cutting-tax. Though your Agency might also know. If all else fails, ask HMRC, as they will be the judge at the end of the day.
  • Thanks guys!
I do my own tax return. So want to know if I can claim this as an expense?
I’ll ask the guys in the link you sent Daliah.
thanks again for your rapid responses guys!

Yes, it's an expense of the business. You're paying the company for their services
  • Thanks penners324
