Ok so I need some advice! My partner is paying Child maintenance for 2 children as calculated by CSA however what I cannot get my head around is how calculations are based on income after pension payments and not after all dedications like Tax and NI? My husband is employed and it’s not like he has a choice weather he pays the tax and ni it’s taken automatically, surely the payments should be based on what he has left after deductions? Has anyone been in this boat also and can you advise on the outcome?
Many thanks

It's out of taxable income so it is gross pay that is taken into account not net. The same is true of many things, whether you're eligible to claim child benefit or how much maintenance loan for student finance. Your husband has the option of paying more into his pension to lessen how much he pays towards his children. Is that fair on them though?0

I empathise with you. Its outrageous paying maintenance on money you dont earn i.e. tax and N.I.0

Paying tax and NI doesn't mean you didn't earn that money!
