@LotsOfTea - I honestly think that as long as there is nothing living in the dried goods, they are good long after the bb date - I use the test of how does it smell, how does it taste, how is the texture once cooked.  We too went through the experience of eating through the post-zombie-apocalypse stores and for the most part, dried goods were edible years past the b/b.

I agree, I'm going with that approach too.

I roasted some carrot, swede and sweet potato in some lemon oil and a good dollop of some carrot top and cashew pesto I made last year and was rescued from the freezer for lunch today and served it with hummus and pitta bread. It was pretty tasty so I might do the same again with the rest of the pesto later in the week.

The turkey ramon yesterday turned out well.  There wasn't a huge amount of meat on the wing but it made lovely stock and I put a soft boiled egg in each bowl as well to bulk it up.  Today I am using a bag of turkey and ham bits (also from Christmas) and half a leek from the garden to make pies with mash and the end of a cauliflower, some sprouts and carrots. I've been eating out of the freezer all month so far and haven't really made a dent!

Last night I made egg fried rice with leftover boiled rice from Sunday's dinner and we had it with mini spring rolls from the freezer and sweet chilli sauce. Tonight I shall eat more of the cheese and crackers mountain...

Tomorrow I am at a conference, so will be fed breakfast, snacks and a hearty 2 course lunch (and then afternoon snacks) so will not need much for dinner after that!

Over the last few days we've finished up a couple of extra meals from when I'd made a batch, and I've had to throw out yogurt, blue cheese and cream cheese that had gone off, so I've definitely not cured myself of buying too much. There is still quite a bit of cheese and bacon to use, and some celery. I finished the ham slices yesterday. They weren't that nice so I'm glad they've gone.

There was space in the freezer which I've filled with frozen berries as I had 15% off them and only a short time to use it. Those are something we get through quickly so it seems logical to stock up.

In the on-going saga of the Miser's Marmalade, to my great surprise I have a soft set. However, it has grapefruit in it so I can't eat it and DH is therefore faced with seven jars which, he says, are rather strong! He doesn't say 'inedible' but I wonder how I could dilute it? Maybe boil up a jar at a time with some sugar and water, or orange juice? Or find some marmalade recipes and eke it out over a few years? :D

DS1 had the last of the leftovers from Sunday for lunch today. I had toast for dinner (too full from conference)  I threw away 2 spoons of alcoholic thick cream into food waste (bin day tomorrow)

Tomorrow's lunch is more cheese and crackers. All of the Xmas cheese 🧀 now fits into one large lock and lock box in the fridge- I think that's progress! 😁

I've just had a (YS) kyiv from the freezer with a whole tub of baby mushrooms and the last 5 stems of asparagus that have been lurking in the fridge - amazingly, they were still (more than) edible, with no slime! 👏 Lunch was cheese and crackers.

DH has a temporary crown which has broken off, so between that and cold, he doesn't really feel like earing. DS1 is having cheese and crackers for dinner and DS3 will probably have soup.

Small bits of progress being made 😁

We had a pack of salmon that I froze a few weeks ago, with pasta, the remains of a jar of pasta sauce and  peas. My lunch was from Gr3ggs so nothing decluttered there. We've also got quite a large bag of peppers so fridge space is taken up. DH tends not to trim them as much as I do so tomorrow I need to remember to chop the remains of the ones he cooked with yesterday and start a freezer bag of them. Waste not, want not (apart from want of freezer space).
