Hi all, I was trying to catch up with posts including some super helpful replies but tech won't let me! Off this week so hopefully will get caught up. Still not used up the Turkey! My Mum has claimed it for Easter. Seems reasonable and with the remaining food from the Xmas dinner we buy online (I say we - she!). then Easter Sunday dinner is looking very pleasant indeed. I digress. Not been doing too well on using up, work is busy and as I have said before my OH does not have the creativity so just tends towards buying more. So far I have used up a lot of veg - bubble and squeak for the freezer, soup and we had a lovely chicken. mushroom and bacon pasta last night with the leftover roast and some of the bacon DD had wanted for breakfast. Tonight is Thai green curry, last of Sunday's chicken in for OH and green beans, spinach, kale and sweet potato for me.4

Ellie79 said:and as I have said before my OH does not have the creativityFollowing this really useful thread from LurkdomNot sure what your cooking arrangements are but if there's a meal plan, does your DH follow it or want to cook something else? If he's not overly creative, would he follow a recipe if you left one/discussed what he's going to cook?A budget is like a speed sign - a LIMIT not a TARGET!!

@Frugalista - I'm not sure how you can reduce the spiciness of Bombay Mix - perhaps pouring the bag into a sieve and shaking it so that any of the loose chilli powder falls out of the mix? Or maybe mixing some gram flour into the mix and then shaking THAT off, in case any of the spices stick to the flour?4

Using up a box of mushrooms, some Philly soft cheese and some quark to make a mushroom stroganoff for dinner tonight. Will serve with rice.
Looking forward to that as not had it for a long time.

I clear morning and managed to clear the shed a bit. Brought the last of the winter veg in. The butternut didn't make it, looks like something nibbled on it. The (very big) marrow got roasted and to be tossed with tin chickpeas as a side dish. 1 pumpkin still to be used.
Out: bread flour, wholemeal bread flour, fenugreek seeds, seed mix, sachet yeast for a lovely loaf of bread. Salmon (again), chickpeas.
In: 2x packs sausages from a food tasting, falafel mix (olio)It's good for the soul to walk with your soles on the soil.2 -
In: pack of wholemeal rolls
Out: pack of chicken thighs

I think as I have plenty of mayo and sweet potatoes, I'll be using some of the chipotle sauce with those.
Yesterday we had a take away so today DH finished that up and I had some fish from the freezer and finished a jar of tartare sauce, then for my work meal I had the last of the ready meals from the freezer. I need to restock there even if it's just one meal for when I'm in a hurry. Usually I make overnight oats with bananas but the bananas I bought days ago are stubbornly green so are off the menu till they reform.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

@Cherryfudge - I find frozen fruit far better than fresh in overnight oats; the liquid from the defrosting fruit helps to stop it being claggy. I've always found it very claggy with fresh fruit and/or not enough yoghurt!
