Pea soup with mint sauce would be lovely thanks @LotsOfTea!  I could make up a batch for my lunches.

I found another two partly used jars of curry paste so I think curry will feature too. DH won't want mint in his but it would be easy enough to add some to mine.

@Cherryfudge I make a raita to have with curry using a dollop of yoghurt, some grated cucumber and a splash of mint sauce.  That might make a side dish?
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

@LotsOfTea thank you for the naan instructions. Made last night, easy and delicious with a prawn curry (frozen prawns and frozen spinach and a jar of sauce).

The SR flour bag not only has a stale agent but is clearly 'magic' as the bag doesn't seem to go down despite naan, cake and scones!  Will use it up making naan.

I made a sort of basic pea soup for lunch today. Just fried off some onion, added peas and some lettuce that needed to be used, a couple of teaspoons of mint sauce and a bit off sugar to offset the acidity. It was perfectly edible, though I ended up adding instant mash to give it some thickness.

I also demolished a teaspoon of the mint sauce straight off the teaspoon which was very nice. :)

  • i'm going to spend lots of time catching up on this thread.  I am always amazed at how you folks can make something out of (scraps of) nothing!

I had 3 boxes of fresh cherry tomatoes that we've had for ages.  Usually dh just eats them like candy but he's off them right now.  So I looked online and and now roasting them with garlic to toss with pasta for dinner.   I feel so much better now that they won't be wasted.  I'll make some rice pudding this afternoon and have mushroom bisque and chilled pea soup that dh loves on for tomorrow.  He's eating only soups this week since he had facial surgery last week and no chewing is allowed.

I turned off the fridge/freezer this morning so the freezer part can defrost/be wiped out before it's removed on Thursday to be replaced by a new one.  After a short while I managed to free the bottom drawer and got it over the sink before a very large chunk of ice fell off - less to melt onto the towels!

I've had to put a couple of things in the fridge compartment where they will obviously defrost since the fridge is also off but we can use these over the next couple of days.  Also defrosting are two wholemeal breakfast muffins and two pittas to go in the bread bin and I can make soup from the assorted veg that's left.  All in all, I'm happy that very little has gone to waste.

I've also taken all the various jars and bottles out of the fridge (didn't realise there were so many) and put them onto a tray on the worktop so there's just a few fresh items left to come out pre-delivery.  If I don't open the fridge door too much they should be OK.

Using up pork steaks in BBQ sauce with oven chips and peas for tea tonight.
Be kind to others and to yourself too.

I'm another who has more jars and bottles in the fridge than expected. A lot of them are the home made jams that I don't really like enough to have often, but don't want to waste!

I once used up a disappointing jar of lemon curd by putting a spoonful in my porridge every morning and weirdly it tasted much better in the porridge than it did on toast. Maybe it's because porridge is so bland that anything that zhuzhes it up a bit tastes great! Jam also works well stirred into natural yoghurt to effectively make it flavoured yogurt.

I did try some in my porridge, funnily enough! The syrupy bit was okay but the chunks of marrow (it's marrow jam) weren't inspiring. I either put up with them or fish them out.

I just had a wild thought: the jam didn't set well so the best bit of it is the sweet liquid. Perhaps I should forget it's jam and use that wherever sweet liquid is required? Any ideas?

Out: DH made a chicken and veg pie yesterday which has done us two days and used about half the remaining chicken from the roast as well as some bits of veg. Tomorrow might be chicken and chorizo pasta. The pate is finished and the tiffin is down to one slice.
