@Cairnpapple, I had to look up 'meat tinsel', never having come across it before. I assume it's a spice and dried fruit mixture?
I finished the lemon and blueberry muffins and despite having had them most days recently, I'm not sick of them. Just need to make a smaller quantity next time! I've also nearly made it to the end of the plain yogurt cake, which I've discovered is amazing with cream cheese. I need to bake again this weekend as we have a guest coming. In fact tomorrow I might do a raid on @sda for their £1 tins of apple slices which DH loves but which also come in very useful for puddings.
DH is finishing the chicken pie for tea tonight so I'm going to raid the freezer and see what I can use up for two days of main meals for me - he's away tomorrow. There are lots of oddments of frozen veg and beans I could invent something with.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

@Cherryfudge the meat tinsel is this one https://angusandoink.com/products/meat-tinsel-200g
It is a Christmassy spice mix that is somewhat similar to mixed spice but also has a bit of black pepper and chilli so it has a small kick to it. You can definitely use it as a meat rub as designed, but I prefer to substitute it into recipes that would usually use mixed spice and/or cinnamon, like apple spiced muffins.

I feel I've done quite well on the using things up front, today. The huge stock of yogurt cake is finished, and I dug into the freezer for lunch, coming up with vegetarian sausages, home made potato croquettes and sprouts. I think a fridge clean and clear is also due, but not tonight.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Good Morning chums I'm here on the IoW until tomorrow as my DD, son-in-law and I came over to house-hunt ,well we saw one on Tuesday which fits the bill, made an offer, and it was accepted, so all being well we should hopefully be moving here by June/July.
So from tomorrow onwards its definitely eating from the cupboards and fridge freezer and decluttering as much stuff as i can.My little next door neighbour will take a good bit, as she has two little girls to feed and I know she struggles at times. The food mountain has to go
I know I think I have around every cleaning material and product on the market under the sink in two cupboards so they will have to be cleared out as well I want minimal packing if possible .So I shall be ruthlessly rehoming clothes as well
Exciting times ahead at last. We enjoyed being here though, and look forward to moving over. My late husband came from here so there is still family around
Right, I'm off to have my first cup of coffee, Lent is nearly finished then I will really enjoy about 10 cups of tea as I abstained from tea for Lent, also to win a bet with my DGS Ben who said I wouldn't lastdoesn't know how stoical his Nanny can be
Cheers chums JackieO xx4 -
@London_1 exciting times indeed! You will be changing your name to IOW_1 then?
How lovely to have that to look forward to.
Your neighbour might be able to help out with the cleaning products if she is helping with the 'food mountain'.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I've made a lovely soup for our lunch today to use up some of the herbs from the freezer. It's got butternut squash, sweet potato and carrot in it and a really big dose of coriander and it's delicious! I'm really looking forward to it. I've made carrot and coriander soup before and thought it was very ordinary but I think putting more coriander in and the extra other vegetables has transformed it.
OH is out tonight for some drinks and not sure whether he'll have food out or come back for dinner so I've not made plans but I know there's a tub of veg Thai green curry I can have in the freezer if it's just me.6 -
Win of the day for me : I had enough space in the main freezer to move 4 bags of frozen veg from the chest freezer (which desperately needs emptying and defrosting).
I'm making a pea, ricotta and lemon tart for lunch today which I'll be serving with sweet potato wedges. Last time I did it DS didn't like it but I'm working on the basis that you have to keep trying with kids. He'll definitely eat the wedges so he won't go hungry.

out: pork mince, homemade stock, frozen peas and frozen coriander into a keema curry
in: hopefully 4 portions of keema curry later!3 -
I've been doing quite well for eating up leftovers recently: chips and mushy peas from Saturday's takeaway became Monday's lunch (instead of the healthy mixture I'd planned), and I've just made a mixture of tuna mayo , potato croquettes and sauteed vegetables which worked out quite well and has created gaps in the fridge. I also finished a rather old stilton for lunch, though that meant throwing out some parts I wasn't certain of! I do love Stilton though, so I'm pleased to report I got to enjoy it. DH had the odd piece of salmon in sauce for tea yesterday, and is eating out this evening (I could have gone but I've been nursing what appears to be bronchitis). I also had the remains of a jug of custard on its own, which is no hardship.
Not if you like custard as much as I do.
Over the next few days I think ham and cheese will feature at some point, and possibly also things with yogurt in, and cake.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
