Received letter from EON/PRAC/BW Legal regarding a debt that isn’t mine

Hi, hopefully I’m posting this in the right category.

I’ve seen there’s been a large amount of these being received by people and now I can add myself to the list. I’ve got a letter demanding an outstanding balance of £118.59 owed to EON from January 2016 to March 2016. Where things differ for me from examples I’ve found are as follows:

Neither I or my partner have ever had an account with EON.

We didn’t move into the property until July 2019.

Neither I or my partner are named - the letters are all addressed to “The Occupier or Occupiers.”

I’m fully aware it’s not my debt and have no intention of paying it, but I’d like to know the best way to tell them where to shove it.

I’m aware I can show them our tenancy agreement, but I’d prefer not to hand over personal information unless I really have to, especially given it’s nothing to do with either myself or my partner.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Sorry can't help with you problem but l too am having a nightmare with EON.  We just moved into a property which the previous owner assured us they were with EON and even provided their account details and still EON say we are with a different provider and this has been going on since 7th December 2021 so l dreed to think what our bill will be as they think we live next door.

I don't think you could make this up.

    Hope you finally get sorted.

Personally: if I was renting I'd give it to my landlord, otherwise I'd ignore it.

Then you have not received anything.
A letter not addressed to you came through your door, so give it to the landlord/agent if you want, but certainly do not reply it it yourself.

You could send the 'Prove It' letter, signed as 'The Occupier' so as not to make their life easier, or just ignore it.  Don't send any personal info: it's their job to prove that you are a debtor, you don't have to prove your innocence.
  • Hmm, as easy as that is it then? It’s probably a good idea if I forward it into our landlord then just in case.

    Thanks for the responses.

A debt letter addressed to the occupier is a speculative letter just send it back not known at this address.
