I booked a hotel through Alpharooms for Easter 2020 which was obviously cancelled. They gave a credit note for rebooking, which we did for April 2022. Alpharooms have now called in the liquidators. I submitted the claim form they sent, and have received confirmation from them that Im due a refund of nearly £600, but I would have to claim it as a chargeback on my debit card. I've been in touch with the bank who say I can't do this as the original payment is over the 540 day time limit. Any advice as to how I can get the money back? Travel insurance doesn't cover it.

The Nationwide doesn't have your money, it will have been paid to Alpha Rooms when you made your booking. Alpha promised that all funds would be kept safe in a trust account until used for your booking and that scheme was overseen by TTA. There is no legal obligation on Nationwide to offer a refund if you paid by debit card and I am certain TTA know this. Where has the money gone? It was TTA's responsibility to check the operation of the account but it is clear the money isn't there.

If you are on Facebook there is a group of Alpha customers, over 2000 of them, in exactly the same situation, it seems contacting your MP may well help so I would certainly encourage you to do that for a start.
