SSE quarterly billing.

I switched my gas supply in April 2021 to SSE (now a part of OVO), and quickly discovered that they issue bills every 3 months, i.e. quarterly. Although I have a SMETS1 smart meter, and the SSE web site was telling me that I did not need to enter my own readings, I decided to do so monthly until it seemed that SSE could read the smart meter. This has resulted in very strange bills.
Bill 1a: 1 April to 24 May. Estimated reading on bill 5429. (Meter reading on 29 May 5373 submitted before receipt of this bill)
Meter reading of 5375 submitted on 23 July. Bill 1b issued dated 27 July.
Bill 1b: 1 April to 24 May. Estimated reading on bill 5359.
Bill 2a: 25 May to 17 August. Smart meter reading on bill 5377. Hooray. They can read the meter. No need to submit readings.
Bill 3a: 18 August to 18 November. Estimated reading on bill 5453. (Meter reading on 16 November 5562 not submitted.)
Meter reading of 5760 submitted on 16 December. Bill 3b issued dated 24 December.
Bill 3b: 18 August to 18 November. Customer reading on bill 5760.
So now I have been billed for energy consumed up to 16 December and standing charges up to 18 November. The latest bill also includes the monthly DD payments up to 9 December. Next bill is due end February. I thought Symbio's electricity billing was difficult to understand, but SSE's quarterly billing for gas is a real challenge.
