Restored my faith in my community :)

Everyone talks about local fb groups… a lot of people described as “karens” or “moaning about fireworks”.

in the depth of my depression I got myself into a heap of debt… this month paid off my loans but unfortunately due to other bills have been left with £0. (My own fault)

I put a post on our local fb group asking about food banks and organisations… loads of positive responses and no judgements…

I had a message from my local co op asking me to pop in, I thought aww maybe a food hamper..::

balled my eyes out, village did a whip round and they handed me £1,000 cash that they don’t want back.

please no negative comments, I don’t have a family around and I felt suicidal and didn’t know who to turn to and was at my lowest.

Hi, so glad you have a wonderful community. We also have a local fb support group that started up shortly after the first lockdown.

I can't imagine anyone would want to send negative comments. I think it's great that these groups are starting up and the man who started ours was invited to the Christmas carol concert hosted by the Duchess of Cambridge and televised on ITV. He's now hoping to get a charity status for the group so more people can be helped.

If you need help with debts, there are three free help groups recommended by this forum - Stepchange, Citizens Advice and National Debtline. I used Stepchange when I was at a very low point in my life and they helped me to get my finances sorted and also to turn my life around.

There ARE people out there who will help but I do know that it is not always easy to ask, or to even know where to turn. It's great to know that when you do pluck up your courage to ask for help, people are there. I've been so grateful myself for the internet during difficult coronavirus times.

I hope things will get better for you, going forward. I feel grateful that things did improve for me and it looks like things are looking up for you, too.   :)  xx  Good luck for the New Year xx

  • Thank you Sophie8916 for the most heart warming thing I've read this chrimble/new year.
I hope you find a way through your present issues.

So pleased for you, I was in a similar position many years ago and it was a hard struggle to get back on an even keel. BUT I and thousands of others have done it and are now happy and secure.
One organisation I have pointed people to is CAP, Christians against Poverty, they will help you to formulate an action plan for the way forward and they never push the christian part at all, just kind people who understand debt and the trauma it brings.
  • Remember when you are feeling better and got yourself sorted out, to pay it forward
I remember when I was at my lowest and a friend helped me out - since then I have always paid it forward and this was over 30 years ago
  • That is so magical to read, I wish you lots of luck for the future.
