Amazon delivery failures

I'm having consistent issues with Amazon deliveries.

After a couple of items were stolen from the doorstep sewveral years ago (CCTV showed the theft), instructions were updated to require handover to householder (this is an option)

In addition "High theft area, items must not be left on doorstep or outdoors" was added to the address

Nonetheless, deliverers are still dumping and running - or more recently simply not showing up at all, but still signing deliveries off as "Handed to resident" - most recently twice in the last month

My understanding is that courier statements of this kind are a legal declaration and this could bounce nastily for them if proof is shown their making false ones, but more to the point Amazon are being extremely uncooperative about refunds by claiming they're just an agent for third party sellers. My understanding is that UK courts don't recognise such "agencies" and have already ruled that if Amazon are taking the money, for all legal purposes they're the retailer and bear all legal responsiblity for the sale regardless of who actually fulfills the sale/delivery

I know I have the option of raising billing disputes with my card issuer but I'm wondering what other options are available when having to waste several hours trying to deal with their processes and "help" desk workers. (as in being able to charge them for time wasted - which I believe is the only way they'll stop the behaviour)

This isn't JUST Amazon. Quite a few couriers are awful. The difference is that Amazon don't have any actual proof of delivery, unlke almost every other courier who has GPS tracking and/or photos which have allowed concrete confirmation that the delivery was to the wrong location or contrary to instructions (in one case Hermes ended up paying up for an item smashed after being thrown over the gate contrary to instructions, based on their own photos)

What's grating my gears is that Amazon are essentially ripping off both consumers and vendors with their behaviour and seem to be getting away with it

Or the OP can use the Amazon lockers, yes admittedly if the item is large then a locker wont be an option but smaller items its perfect, no need to be in (in the OPs case) to be handed the item.

As noted, the problem isn't JUST Amazon. They're just the worst of the bunch.

Perhaps, but the nearest locker is several miles away. Not an option

Is there no option to have a parcel box? We looked at one to replace our mailbox, otherwise you may fall foul of the "too many claims" algorithm and not be able to order anyway.

Either keep on complaining to Amazon or stop using them.
