British Gas Home Energy Exclusive January 2024 - were we mad to buy into this?

If a company is closed when a cooling offer period is due to end just send them an email that will be received on the day its sent even if it isn't opened by the company the date sent would be within a cooling off period and is far faster than any other method but could be the same as a phone call when they are open for business.Gerry1 said:
Don't bank on it, they may well stick to the time limit. If you want to cancel, Chat is available right now. Remember to get the transcript for future reference.Simon_Daisy said:British Gas closed for the extra bank holiday today so I couldn't speak to anyone. I hope they will extend my cooling off period by at least one day to compensate for bank hol.Someone please tell me what money is0 -
I guess the reason it's mixed is because no one know how much prices will rise in the near future. If you don't mind taking a short term loss for a potential long term saving go for the fix. Although prices may not increase as much as expected and the fix turns out to be an expensive mistake. The choice is yoursSimon_Daisy said:Thanks for that tip. I'm trying the chat option now. My only problem is that I am still not 100% if I should cancel, and advice on this site had been mixed.
Personally I would be slightly tempted by those rates0 -
Forgive me for a few silly and / or rude questions, but is the massive annual kWh consumption roughly right for the size of property and the number of occupants and lifestyles? The gas might be understandable if it's a mansion or a palace, the electricity rather less so.
- Are you using electricity inappropriately, e.g. electric shower, plug in heaters, storage heaters, underfloor heating, immersion heater, hot tub etc? ALL your heating should be gas (except electric blankets, tumble dryer, hair dryer etc).
- Are you sending monthly meter readings?
- Are you reading the meters correctly? It can be very, very easy to misread them: indeed, some smart meters are so dreadful that they even confuse former meter readers ! Please post photos and state your current readings.
- If your gas meter is imperial (ft3) but your supplier thinks it's metric (m3) then your consumption will be 2.83 times the correct value.

Having looked at the current fixed offerings I'd personally leap at those rates if I could get them now !!!0

Just to update everybody who kindly replied: I have used the chat service to cancel within the cooling off period, and I am very glad I did so, as I am now on a much better tariff, which ends in September 2023. A cynic might ask why they didn't offer me that rate in the first place, but at the moment I am just grateful I didn't end up tied to totally unaffordable rates until January 2024. Thanks to everybody who replied. This has been an amazing example of why internet forums, when they work, can be amazing! I'm very grateful. Simon1

What rates etc. did you get for a September 2023 fix?1

Please could you post the name of the tariff and the price per kw rates. It sounds a really good tariff if the tariff rates are lower than the Home Energy Exclusive January 2024.Simon_Daisy said:Just to update everybody who kindly replied: I have used the chat service to cancel within the cooling off period, and I am very glad I did so, as I am now on a much better tariff, which ends in September 2023.
