Preparing for packing!

So, I'm planning for a busy day in a few weeks.

My out of town removal company will be coming early to pack everything before moving my stuff into storage 70 miles away on the same day.

I have labels which I'll pre-write by room/ category and try to have these placed on the boxes. And I'll highlight the things I'd like easier access to, and ask them to load/ unload these last so they're at the front of the unit, as much as they're able.

Just wondering if there's anything else anyone I can do to make the packing quick and easy for everyone on the day. Do I just leave everything in the cupboards etc. and let the lads get on with it? Has anyone who's used a packing service got any tips on any thing else I can do to organise my stuff?

Thanks for any advice!

Leave them to it!  They'll know what they are doing.

Just ensure you have packed a suitcase and your box of tea, cutlery, mugs that you'll want as soon as you're in the house. And those you put in the car or clearly mark as "do not touch".

Might be worth thinking also about items you are less bothered about having to hand and those items you need soon after moving in.
Also having similar items together so you're not opening every box to find something.
May you find your sister soon Helli.

They may well ignore most of your labels. Boxes will just be labelled 'lounge' 'kitchen' etc. You'll open one and find 20 things in, another will have 4. It's just mad crazy fast, they won't be looking for corresponding boxes for what they're packing.

If you want easy access to things like bedding, kettle, etc, pack them yourselves and keep in your car, or at least all in one room.

Don't let them pack the hoover, you'll need that and cleaning wipes, mugs, spoons, loo roll, etc.

If you walk them round saying what not to pack in several rooms, don't be surprised if they don't take much notice. DON'T LEAVE ANYTHING OUT YOU DON'T WANT PACKED! That includes car keys, pet carriers, etc.

Pack your own personal bits. Underwear, or whatever else you don't want them to see!

I don't think you need to worry about the kettle and mugs being packed too soon.  The first rule of removal company packers is to make sure that tea can be made during the packing and first thing on arrival at the new house.
Paying for packing to be done is well worthwhile in my opinion.

How long will it be in storage, and what sort of stuff do you need access to?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

For my packing I got a number of different coloured sticky labels from a stationery store and then assigned colours to different rooms, then stuck the labels on all sides of the boxes, that way I can see at a glance which box goes where, a written label is good but if the box is stacked the wrong way round it’s hard to read sometimes
