When filling out the PLF it asks"which country or territory are you travelling from" if eg you are travelling from Brazil but transfer in Germany before heading to the UK which country should you put?

I would normally just put Brazil, but the next question ask the flight number you arrive on and obviouly the germany to uk leg would not have a flight number originating from Brazil.

I would suspect you would answer that question with 'Germany'
The next question is "Which countries or territories have you been in, or will you be in, for the 10 days before coming to the UK?" where you would put 'Brazil'

So I suspect you had to register with a new email then? Since their system would show your original already registered.

To be honest I can't remember -  all I remember is that despite repeated attempts the one time code didn't arrive so had to start as a new user!
  • You don't have to register to fill in the form. And if you're not registered,  you don't need text confirmation sent to phone. You will just get email to start filling the form.

My recent experience of PLF is as follows. Before my trip, I created a PLF account which basically enables you to pre-fill in things that won't change eg name, address, DOB, home and mobile telephone numbers etc. Created a password and all seemed well

So, 48 hrs before my return flight to UK, I try and log in to my PLF account to enter flight number, order number of 2 day test etc etc. Lo and behold it is 2FA so although I entered the password I needed the code from the 2FA text. Nothing arrived - despite the fact I had been texting friends and family multiple times whilst I was away with no problem.  Tried several times over the next 12 hrs - no 2FA text.

Thus I abandoned my account and used the new user procedure as above

But will you have 'entered' Germany? If you stay airside and don't pass through passport control then you won't have been classed as having entered the country. If you go through passport control, spend a few hours seeing Frankfurt (or another German city) and then go back to the airport then you've definitely visited Germany.

Haven't done a transfer flight since the latest form came in, but when I transferred in Warsaw with LOT last year from Minsk there was an option to select that I hadn't entered the country (had an overnight layover, so I did for my own comfort, but the option was there).

The definition the UK government uses is that passengers have left the aircraft and mixed with other passengers or new passengers got on. Both will be relevant in the case of 99% of transfer flights.
