Avro to Octopus

Since Avro took my last Direct Debit in September 2021 and being told Octopus were my new power supplier, I have paid no money to anyone. Avro no longer bill me and Octopus, despite setting up a Direct Debit with them, have never taken anything either. When the Direct Debit eventually gets taken am I going to be hit for a big bill covering Oct, Nov & Dec ? or do they smooth it over the year

I'm in a similar situation except I've not got any direct debits as I'm waiting to see what is carried over from Avro.
However given that you already know you will be owing the money and that it will be more expensive than Avro, why are you not putting the money aside now towards the bill when it does come?

  • Yes I have done so but its the "not knowing" that bugs me.
I feel that nearly 4 months is an excessive time to wait for the transfer.
I have been with companies that failed in the past and it never took anything like 4 months

Normal practice would be to have the bill covering the full period to bring you up to date, but the DD would usually just be for one month.
This will leave you with a debt on the account and you should then either just clear it with an extra payment or adjust your DD upwards to pay it off over a longer period. If Octopus are not happy with your DD settings they will contact you, but in general if you manage the payments reasonably they will let you sort it out yourself.
The aim though should be to always keep the account in credit.

I emailed them before Christmas to ask about the delay as my account is still showing zero.
They said they are still waiting on information from Avro and as that side of it is out of their control there’s nothing they can do to speed things up.

  • I too am in a similar situation being now with Octopus having been with Avro. I cancelled my DD.

Knowing that bills are going to be higher I am making one off payments to Octopus each month equivalent to my previous DDs with Avro.

I am in the same situation, I got a bill from Octopus for what was owing on my Avro account (£56) I have given my readings in as requested........ since then nothing. I have emailed them twice, no reply. Today I received a bill for £500!!  We all know that energy prices have gone up, but this is ridiculous, and the minimum they could do is REPLY to my emails.

Is the bill correct though, given the closing reading on your Avro account and the meter reading now, or is it using an estimated reading? (which would be unusual for Octopus).

We haven't had any bills or statements what so ever apart from what we owed to Avro.

So this is also a bill for what is owed to Avro?

If so then take a look at the meter readings that have been used and see what has changed since the original Avro bill...
