MrsCD said:@Cherryfudge your repair is really good, and you can hardly see it! If anyone notices it, you could say it's a special logo! You could do some more random over stitches all over the jumper so it looks like it belongs....Well done.
I just need to figure out how to mend the Stanley knife cut on DH's trousers. He thinks I can fix anything, and while that's very nice of him, I'm not that good.
Re: the damaged trousers, I'd use an iron-on patch on the inside of the fabric, being really careful, of course, that the front matches up. Then just trim any loose threads at the front. It depends on the fabric and where the cut is, of course.
There is a more sophisticated, and probably more permanent, method here, though I think the backing patch needed to be a better colour match.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Textiles was Needlework when I was at school too (although this was the late 80s/90s). We had an old dragon of a teacher who used to like to talk at us and then ask ‘Do you agree girls?’ One of my friends made a skater skirt in Year 9, everytime our teacher mentioned it being ‘a bit short’ the hem went up another inch.✒️ Declutter 2025👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

I hated home economics at school… my aunt was the teacher and I was always doing something wrong!!
my mum is a brilliant sower but like @Cherryfudge she takes over any project I attempt with her way!! She shouts at sewing bee when it is on and I’m not even close to that standard so I kind of give up.
I did however…… KNIT A DISHCLOTH… today in organic cotton I found in Poundland. Just garter stitch but it was good to be back practising.22 coupons until 2023
£200/£200 January grocery challenge…. But with a stacked fridge cupboard and freezer8 -
Yay to a dishcloth! There's something very satisfying about making something yourself, and I'm firmly convinced of the value of knitting garter stitch (or stocking stitch) so your muscle memory gets to work.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Thanks @Cherryfudge
I think I'll try the iron on patch and see how I get on. I have some wonderweb hemming stuff that might work with a bit of fabric to start with.
Well done @white-rabbit_2-2 on knitting a dishcloth.anything that gets you used to the rhythm of knitting (or crochet) gets a big Yes from me!

Hi everyone,
I know it's nearly close to the end of the year but I would really like to join please. I had made a pact with myself to only shop secondhand following a 2.5st weight loss and I have absolutely loved going around the charity shops and finding my style which has been hidden under over-sized clothes for the last few years. I have a sewing machine and am an 'enthusiastic' beginner with sewing dreams that do not match my skill set. I also loom knit which I love. I also like tea and biscuits. And sherry..10 -
Come in out of that grey rain, @freshmayres, and have a comfy seat. by the stove. The kettle's on, I think...
@white-rabbit_2-2, a dishcloth is great - nice work! I crochet granny squares for our kitchen cloths, in cream or white cotton using a different bright colour each year for centres and hanging-loops. I put the new ones out for Ne'er-Day and then the old ones get demoted to messier jobs more likely to stain, and the year-before's get further demoted to floor-cleaning and wiping the seasoned-iron pans clean after use (I don't wash my seasoned pans, only ever wipe them), so they gradually slip down the scale til they are falling apart and are then put aside til the next trip to my parents where Dad gratefully cuts them up further and adds them to his precious compost-bin!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

hello everyone…. A great day for drying here today and it’s lovely to be able to see the bottom of the wash basket. Have treated myself to a glass of wine ahead of a big talk with my hubby about going back to work. 🙄
I’ve always been a career lady but these last two weeks have made me realise I have everything in my wardrobe I need to see out my mortal life and there’s nothing I want or need. I have LOVED being with my kids and my community.Leaving and doing it all on one salary feels very scary.Has anyone got any words of advice??
BTW I saw a gorgeous scarf in Dobbies today which I would normally have spent £20 on but I thought heck no I am putting it back…… 👏🏻22 coupons until 2023

@white-rabbit_2-2 exciting! Can you lay out your expenses and incomings in a simple format he can look at? Make sure to talk about what happens if he is unable to work, and how it will benefit your family. Check there's nothing you're entitled to but not yet getting. Make sure child benefit is in your name if kids are under 12 so you get NI contributions paid towards retirement. Double check Married Tax Allowance to let him earn more tax free if you will have no personal income.
I've been home since 2011 when I went on Mat Leave, so much better for my mental healthMarried 40y.o. mum of an autistic 11y.o. Carer/SAHM.
