@nannygladys - you could always make a patchwork top - or a lightly-quilted one for colder weather?

Well I took a stroll into the village charity shops today. 2 vintage pure wool skirts, 1 will be altered to become more of a wiggle skirt. The other I'm unsure it's 4 sizes too big but I love the soft wool amd color. Not sure if enough for trousers or remake another wiggle skirt. Yes that's my go to design I like to wear! But as second hand no coupons spent.
But you would be proud, found a coat in style I want but not colour, to light. I carried it around then said ... no you won't wear it don't buy it!
Just need a day to sit and see now.7 -
@MoneysavingmadGem - oh well done on the coat!!!! It's a really startling feeling when you finally do it, isn't it? I still mis-buy occasionally but nothing like as much as I used to... mainly because I'm no longer trying to buy components to make a Me that I wished I was2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

@Laura_Elsewhere that patchwork top is fabulous, what a great way to use up fabric. I am sure things like this must have been made during rationing so no fabric was ever wasted.
I have been thinking about the craft budget idea and I realised I have something I could use. A good few years ago I set up a savings account to pay for my season ticket. I over budgeted as these things have a habit of increasing annually but what actually happened was the price has remained the same for the past 4 years and now I have retired I get a reduced concession price so I can use that account for " hobbies" which would include the season ticket and any craft purchases, of course it will still have to be thought seriously about coupon wise as well
Take care everyone9 -
I promised myself that when I moved house I would have a dedicated sewing/craft room. Three months ago, that was the room that wasn’t needed immediately so it’s where the removal men put everything that didn’t have a home. I don’t have any loft access so Christmas decorations etc are in there as well. New loft ladder is being fitted on Saturday, hurrah, and I decided to get everything out of the room to see what’s there.I am horrified at the volume of fabric and yarn that I seem to have accumulated. Most of the fabric is remnants, old garments in fabric that I liked and didn’t want to part with, Freecycle bargains, jumble sale bag of fabric squares from pattern books ….. It would be great for patchwork, but that isn’t something I do. 🙄 I have got an English paper piecing quilt on the go, but I could probably cover a football field if I used it all. I doubt if there is much that is big enough to make more than a cushion cover.A serious cull is needed. If I’d saved the money I have spent on this over the years, I could probably afford to build the extension I would need to house it!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.8

retiredinfrance said:Pipney-Jane- would it be OK if I went ahead this year with no coupons carried over from last year? My reasons are that I am trying to declutter clothes by using up what I have, buying only essentials, really essential, using up my yarn stash, buying no more this year and also trying to control CS buying. To that end I am going to count secondhand as coming out of rations as I have found that cheaper is not always better. Of course , if top of the range cashmere comes my way, that will be more of an investment. (LOL)
Talking of cashmere I really enjoyed Laura's expert explanation of why cheap cashmere doesn't last. This may explain recent "holes" in two jumpers, one cashmere and the other a fine wool. When looked at carefully they were just like a thread had broken and not like moth damage. I now think the fibres are coming to the end of their life. Anyway I mended them and will continue to wear my mended jumpers. After all , there's a war on....
My Ruth Goodman's Domestic Revolution came today and I am about to start into it this evening, so thanks again for the recommendation.
And as I'm sure they all said in 1942, let's hope for a better year next year as we try to make everything stretch a bit more.
Stay safe, everyone.
Yes, of course. It's up to you @retiredinfrance whether you keep them or consider them expired.
Apologies, all, I haven't had the brain-space to work out the 2021 Fashion on the Ration awards.

Inventories are scary and enlightening things! At least you had the pleasure of the hunt and perhaps a 'Kon Marie' style trawl through ('Do you love the item in your hands?') would help. You actually have to handle things to see if you are ready to let them go, but once you do let go, get them into other hands asap.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
