Even better if one side of the house faces south.3

We are in the South East and have an East facing front and West facing back garden. Really love this positioning, compared to our previous house with a South facing rear garden which seemed too hot in summer with rear rooms baking hot and stuffy.Things I’ve noted though:
Milk - we now use an insulated box as found in the summer months it was curdling before we could get it indoors as it was delivered before 6am and the 1 hour before getting to fridge was too late, and milk seemed to smell off, box sorted this.
Curtains - at front of house living room, these are kept closed for most of morning as the sun is too bright when using this room, even now in winter months too. Especially as we are now working from home, but by 12 noon sun has moved to side of house we then open curtains.Bedrooms at front - as soon as it is dawn and any sort of gap in curtains felt like a laser beam of sunlight directly at your head whilst sleeping, easily sorted with the addition of thicker curtains and a blind.Wind/cold - the front does seem to get a battering in colder weather, I heard the weatherman refer to a cold spell as ‘beast from the east’ and really noticed it. Same with Wind, it seems to shake the front of house and rattle the gates continuously.Anyway, like I said really enjoy the positioning of property and the above things are only minor which we noted since moving in.1 -

I'm in the North of England. My mother is in the South of England. At the moment she is getting around 1/2 hour a day more daylight than I am (December is not my best point in the year!) In June, I get around 1/2 hour a day more daylight than she does - and I love that!1 -

Thank you so much for commenting as it’ll be useful to get the correct curtains/blinds in place per room.1 -

Quite frankly, looking out of the window this morning, from any direction, it's a grey, northern, dark sky! On days like this I feel I should be able to write to the 'gods of daylight' (or whoever) and demand a refund for a defective product

Unfortunately we have no South facing windows. I open up our curtains front and back as much as possible to let the light in - we are at least blessed with 1960s large windows. It certainly helps with a bit of solar gain heating on a rare bright winter's morning.I love the evening sunshine in our back bedroom, although it can get very hot in the summer. The front one does get the sun very early in the summer as we're a long way east.Make £2025 in 2025

If you have young children you won't appreciate their bedrooms being on a south or west facing wall. Not only will the rooms get over heated in the summer, they won't get dark until late - unless you have very good blackout blinds/curtains.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3661

OP - my first home was the exact opposite, front door due west and rear due east and yes the rear started getting dark from shade from midday onwards, which meant I never really enjoyed my garden. The paint on the front door flaked and chipped in no time, so would require repainting regularly. It was also a pain watching TV in the evenings.
The garden to my current home is south facing and that was a deliberate choice, I really loved the heat the attached conservatory brought with it. 2022 will be my first summer with an orangery instead - in fact 2 - and I cannot wait to feel the sunshine pour in. Throw those curtains wide (not that I have or need them, my space is private).
No man is worth crawling on this earth.
