Advice please- should I keep this vehicle?
Evening all,
I bought a van (16 plate berlingo) around 12 months ago and although it seemed ok it has been a total pain in the bum with things going wrong with it.. I now no longer need the van due to a change of job however I will no doubt lose money on it if I was to sell it. It is also £275 a year to tax and insurance is alot more than what I intend to replace it with which is a nearly new Toyota Aygo which I plan on keeping for a long time. I'm now starting to resent the thing as I put new tyres on it due to the tracking being off and prematurely wearing out my tyres and now these new tyres are so loud it is unbearable to drive! I wouldnt mind but they werent cheap tyres either!
Question is do I sell the van and take the hit and purchase the Aygo which will be cheaper to run and a cheaper monthly payment or keep the van and live with it?

If it's a true van, rather than the car version, have you checked how much we buy any car or similar will give you.
Second hand prices seem to have gone up drastically since Covid arrived so you may not lose a lot on selling the Berlingo.1 -

In your mind, the van is troublesome though the issues are likely not serious.
You would prefer (heart) a brand new Aygo which better meets your needs (head) and you can afford.
When heart and head are aligned, that is a good sign.
Make sure you get the keenest deal on the new Aygo and realise the best sale price for the van.
Good luck.1 -
I still owe £6k on the van and webuyanyvan will only give me £3k at best! So it is a decent chunk of money to lose.0

In the current market £3k trade for a 16-plate van seems low. Obviously, we are unsighted on mileage and condition.
What is it worth at Motorway, Arnold Clark, local forecourt? Still new enough to be of interest to a Citroen dealer too.1 -
Its only got part service history but stacks of receipts (that's why I bought it) sadly the valuation calculators go off stamps in the book. Its got 70K on it. Motorway are offering £3600. Just a lot of money to lose but it just doesnt serve it's purpose anymore.0

Then EBay it, at a price you feel happier with. You don’t have to take the motorway offer, it’s just easier and reduces your time spent dealing with tyre kickers and people who arrange to buy but don’t show up.0

A quick look on Autotrader shows the cheapest 16 plate with equivalent miles at £6995 plus VAT.
Stick it on eBay or Autotrader for £6k and you’ll get close to that I’m sure.
Van’s are in demand - loads of parcel delivery drivers, dog walkers, etc. I struggled to find a decent one a few years ago, and even then (before the current rise in prices) I couldn’t have got anything for £3k.0 -
Why doesn’t it meet your needs ? Tyres are sold with decibel ratings. Learn to love it and stick with it.Mortgage free

OP needs to research new prices versus the nearly new price to ensure he isn't paying too much.

thank you all I have decided to sell it privately at around the £6k mark as HHarry says there are plenty for sale around this price and prices are high and there is demand. We have made the decision to go down to 1 car for 6 months to bank some money and then start looking for a small cheap to run car then.0
